*** PARENTAL WARNING ***

"The Crucible" is a serious drama that addresses real-life issues such as:

  • misusing religious faith as a weapon for revenge

  • government refusing to back down, even when it's wrong, to avoid looking weak

  • marital infidelity

If you have a young child, and would rather discuss these issues on your own at home rather than see them explored in this play - this may not be the play for you.

"The Crucible" is part of the approved Pasco County Schools curriculum, and regularly taught each year in 11th grade English classes.

There will be no explicit violence or sexuality displayed in this performance.

About the Play

“The Crucible” is really two plays in one.  It is a historical play about Puritans, and the witchcraft trial hysteria that swept through Salem, Massachusetts.  It is also a play that relates to our own society – how reputations and lives can be destroyed when gossip and rumors are allowed to take the place of facts.

The story focuses upon a young farmer, his wife, and a young servant-girl who maliciously causes the wife's arrest for witchcraft.  The farmer brings the girl to court to admit the lie - and it is here that the monstrous course of bigotry and deceit is terrifyingly depicted.  The farmer, instead of saving his wife, finds himself accused of witchcraft and ultimately condemned with a host of others.
